Journeymen Mechanic - Dexter Construction

Dexter Construction is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of a Journeymen Mechanics (Truck and Transport, and Heavy Equipment, and Automotive for our fleet of construction equipment based out of St John’s, NL.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safe and effective installation, maintenance, and repair of stationary industrial machinery and mobile equipment
• Assemble machinery and equipment as required
• Follow blueprints and engineering specifications and maintain careful records of work performed
• Help prevent breakdowns by checking, cleaning, and oiling machine parts regularly
• Be aware of surroundings at all times
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
• Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities
• Ensure safety of fellow employees
• Adjust, repair or replace parts of construction equipment
• Inspect brake systems, wheel bearings, steering components and other engine parts, and perform repairs as required
• Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications
• Check, clean, and oil machine parts on a regular basis
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience:

• Full certified Red Seal Mechanic
• Basic hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical skills
• Previous experience in the trucking industry on a variety of models
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering specifications
• Willingness to work in a team environment
• Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly
• Working safely is a condition of employment
